Joe Furbee is a Developer Advocate and Community Manager at SAS, where he serves as a liaison between the developer community and SAS technologies. He oversees developer.sas.com, a resource for developers working with SAS and open-source technologies, and regularly writes about programming, SAS administration, and open-source integration. Joe is passionate about helping developers and students expand their technical skills and explore new ways to integrate SAS with open-source technologies. His work in the developer community has earned industry recognition, including being named by WhiteSource Software as one of the Top 20 Developer Advocates to Follow. Abstract: his session will be split up into three sections: discover the SAS Viya platform, an introduction to the SAS Hackathon, and the SAS Curiosity Cup. SAS Viya is SAS’s cloud-native data, analytics, and AI platform, providing a unified environment. We’ll briefly explore SAS Viya and all integration points with other SAS Products and open-source. We’ll also discover how students can turn curiosity and analytical skills into real-world solutions through two global SAS competitions: the SAS Hackathon and the SAS Curiosity Cup. This session will introduce the opportunities, explain how students can participate, and highlight the tools, resources, and mentorship available through SAS. Participants will learn how the Hackathon can tackle real-world business and humanitarian challenges using AI, analytics, and open-source technologies on SAS Viya, while the Curiosity Cup challenges students to explore topics of their choice and apply analytics to answer meaningful questions. Whether you are interested in healthcare, business, sustainability, sports, or another area, these competitions provide opportunities to gain hands-on experience, collaborate with others, and showcase your analytical and problem-solving skills.
