A culture and craft workshop series exploring the African diaspora while honoring natural and ancestral processes from the land to our kitchens. Workshops held Saturdays monthly. Check the flyer for each monthly offering. All registrations must be completed at www.redricebooks.com.

NOTE: You must bring your own sewing machine to this class. You will also need to bring bobbins and needles for your machine. Check your user manual to verify that you're using the proper parts for your machine. Out tha’ Box is a foundational beginners sewing series that was created for people who have sewing machines at home that have either been sitting in the box for too long. If you are too overwhelmed to start, need motivation, or just extra guidance and time, this is the class for you. The class follows a set syllabus where we will begin by learning about the tools you need to get started. Next, we will move into machine basics, fabric fundamentals, understanding patterns and hem finishings. This class comes with an original Out tha' Box Student Notebook and additional resources. We will have a 30 minute break for lunch. It is suggested you bring your own lunch and snacks.

My hope for the final phase of 'For the Love of Blues' is for guests to gather with their families and find something new and intesting to do over the holiday weekend. Show your out of town friends what unique experiences Charlotte has to offer. Each guests will get the opportunity to learn about and explore Indigo dye, one of the most ancient natural dye pigments created for textile use. This final For the Love of Blues event bring an item to indigo dip of your choice! The item must be clean, and 100% natural fibers (cotton, wool, silk, linen). Your item shoud also be small enough to float freely in a 5 gallon bucket (preferrably no larger than a tshirt). Indigo vats, resist tye instruction,materials, and more included in your full experience ticket. Guests will also, go home with after care products, instructions, a custom info-zine, AND a MINI INDIGO VAT for you to continue dyeing at home! During this event you can expect a live DJ set from Simon Smthing keeping the vibe uplifted and joyful! Delicious Whimsy will provide the snacks and drinks.
